If you've seen Dermashine on our social media and wondered what the treatment actually involves, this guide walks you through it, from your first consultation at our Canford Cliffs clinic to what your skin will look and feel like in the days and weeks afterwards.
Renova Clinic was the first clinic in Europe to offer Dermashine Pro, and it has quickly become one of our most requested treatments. Below, we answer the questions our patients ask most often.
What is Dermashine Pro?
Dermashine is an advanced automated injection system used to deliver skin boosters, typically hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides or other regenerative solutions, into the skin with exceptional precision.
Traditional skin booster treatments rely on a practitioner injecting by hand, which means depth, dose and spacing can vary from point to point. Dermashine uses a 9-pin needle head combined with gentle vacuum technology that lifts and stabilises the skin at each injection point. The result is a more even, more comfortable treatment with consistent delivery across the whole treatment area.
What does Dermashine treat?
Skin boosters delivered via Dermashine are designed to improve skin quality rather than change your features. Patients typically choose this treatment to help with:
- Dull, dehydrated or "tired-looking" skin
- Fine lines, particularly around the cheeks, lower face and neck
- Crepey skin texture
- Loss of glow and elasticity
- Skin preparation ahead of a big event, or as part of an ongoing skin-quality plan
Because the treatment works on hydration and skin quality at a cellular level, results tend to look natural, people notice you look fresher and well-rested, not "done."
What happens at your appointment?
Consultation first. Every Dermashine treatment at Renova starts with a consultation. We assess your skin, discuss your goals and medical history, and confirm the treatment and product choice is right for you. If it isn't, we'll tell you and suggest what would suit you better.
Preparation. Your skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied, which is left to take effect for around 10–15 minutes.
The treatment itself. The Dermashine handpiece is moved systematically across the treatment area. At each point, the vacuum gently draws the skin up before the micro-needles deliver a precise, pre-set dose of product. Most patients describe the sensation as a light flicking or suction feeling. The treatment portion typically takes less than 10 minutes depending on the area.
Aftercare. We'll talk you through your aftercare, apply a soothing finish, and you're free to go about your day.
Allow around 30 minutes for the full appointment including numbing time.
Does Dermashine hurt?
This is the question we're asked most. Honest answer: it's very tolerable. Between the numbing cream and the vacuum-assisted delivery, which is one of the main reasons this device was developed, most patients find it noticeably more comfortable than traditional hand-injected skin boosters. You may feel light pressure and the occasional sharper point in more sensitive areas, but discomfort is brief.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal. Immediately after treatment you can expect:
- Small raised bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within a few hours.
- Mild redness, typically calming within 12-24 hours
- Possible pinpoint bruising in some patients, which fades over a few days
Most patients return to normal activities straight away. If you have an important event, we recommend booking your treatment at least a week beforehand to allow everything to fully settle.
How many sessions will I need?
Skin boosters work cumulatively, so a course delivers the best results. For most patients we recommend an initial course of two to three sessions, spaced around four weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every few months depending on your skin and goals.
Your practitioner will recommend a plan tailored to your skin at your consultation, some patients need less, some benefit from more.
When will I see results?
You'll often notice an initial "glow" within days as hydration improves. The deeper benefits, improved texture, firmness and elasticity build gradually over the following weeks as your skin responds, with results developing further across a course of treatments. Individual results vary, which is why we assess and photograph your skin before, during and after your treatment plan.
How much does Dermashine cost in Poole?
Dermashine treatments at Renova Clinic start from £295 per session, with course pricing available. The exact cost depends on the product used (for example, hyaluronic acid boosters versus polynucleotides) and the area treated. We'll give you transparent pricing at your consultation before you commit to anything.
Before and after your appointment: how to prepare
In the 24–48 hours before treatment:
- Avoid alcohol, which can increase the chance of bruising
- Avoid blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, unless medically prescribed — never stop prescribed medication without speaking to your GP
- Arrive with clean skin if possible (no makeup on the treatment area)
- Let us know in advance if you have any active skin infections, cold sores or recent illness
In the 24–48 hours after treatment:
- Avoid makeup on the treated area for at least 12–24 hours
- Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and swimming for 24–48 hours
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser, and apply SPF daily — especially important in summer
- Don't pick or massage the treated area; let the small bumps settle naturally
We provide full written aftercare at your appointment, and you can contact the clinic any time with questions.
Who is Dermashine not suitable for?
Skin boosters aren't recommended if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection in the treatment area, or have certain medical conditions or allergies. This is exactly what your consultation is for, as a CQC-registered clinic, patient safety and suitability come before everything else, and we'll always give you an honest recommendation.
